The ruling was made Thursday by U.S. District Judge Reed O’Conner, the same judge who previously ruled the entire ACA, also known as Obamacare, was unconstitutional. The U.S. Supreme Court overturned that ruling.Most insurers and employer-sponsored plans would no longer be required to cover certain preventive services including screenings for cancer, diabetes and mental health, or a preventive drug that can block the virus that causes AIDS.
Some other cancer screenings approved before 2010 wouldn’t be affected, including screenings for cervical and colorectal cancer, according to the Associated Press.Probably none for at least a year, according to numerous experts who have reacted to the ruling.Larry Levitt as saying: “This is not the potential fatal blow to the ACA like previous court cases, but it would limit a very popular benefit that tens of millions of people use.
The president of the American Medical Association, which represent doctors, called the ruling “deeply flawed” and said patientsThe president of the American Cancer Society Action Network said the ruling would make it hard to catch and treat cancers early, according to Reuters.
