Texas labor force grows to record high for 10th straight month

The number of Texans working or actively looking for work hit more than 15.49 million people after the labor force added 47,300 people in October.

For the 10th straight month, Texas grew its civilian labor force to a record high, the state announced Friday. The number of Texans working or actively looking for work is now just shy of 15.5 million people after adding 47,300 people in October. The number of people actually employed, however, fell by about 10,600 jobs to just under 14.3 million people over October. Even with that drop, Texas still has 274,600 more jobs than it did a year ago, according to the Texas Workforce Commission .

McAllen-Edinburg-Mission reported the highest rate of unemployment at 5.2%, followed by Beaumont-Port Arthur at 5.1% and Brownsville-Harlingen at 4.8%. Metro unemployment rates are not seasonally adjusted.
