The state’s grid operator has sent notices to power plant owners in the Dallas and San Antonio metro areas about the expected Arctic blast.

ERCOT said it sent notices to power plant owners in the Dallas and San Antonio metro areas about the expected Arctic blast.

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas said Friday that it has notified utilities and power plant owners that temperatures will be 25 degrees or lower in the Dallas and San Antonio metro areas between Thursday, Dec. 22, through Monday, Dec. 26. Next week, Texas and other central U.S. states will be gripped by a bulge in the polar vortex that could challenge regional records that date to 1983, said Tom Kines, a meteorologist with AccuWeather Inc.Because wellheads can freeze and pipeline pumping stations can lose power, oil and gas companies have been urged to “secure all personnel, equipment, and facilities.”
