In a break with tradition, Abbott is turning the speech typically delivered to state lawmakers at the Capitol into aThe governor delivered a televised speech in 2021, but that one came at theWhile lawmakers were invited to attend the evening event in San Marcos, halfway between Austin and San Antonio, it is not clear how many will show up. Abbott will also likely have invited guests, but a list was not immediately available.
It remains to be seen what role, if any, school safety or gun policy will play in the speech. On Tuesday, several families whose loved ones were killed in the Uvalde school massacre said they were not asked to attend Abbott’s speech and have not recently spoken with the governor’s office.
“At the end of the day, you can listen to what someone says, but to know the truth, look at what they’ve done,” Martinez Fischer, D-San Antonio, said in a letter sent to the 63 other House Democrats late Thursday morning. “After 30 years of total Republican control of Texas, our property taxes, our college tuition, our insurance and energy bills are all higher than ever before.”, a Hays County company that recycles rare earth magnets valuable in today’s technology.
