Temperatures in Texas are soaring to unseasonably warm heights, with many areas expected to reach the 80s this week. However, a cold front is predicted to arrive next weekend or early the following week, bringing temperatures closer to normal.

Get ready for one of the warmest starts to February we've ever experienced across the Lone Star State. Daily temperatures will rise into the 80s across most of the state, including San Antonio . A few isolated locations could even hit the 90-degree mark. But we're still in winter, and these unseasonably warm temperatures won't last forever. Long-range weather models are pointing at a potential cold front that could bring temps closer to seasonal normals by the weekend and early next week.

Here's a close look at how the next week will play out. \Monday’s forecast Early Monday, atmospheric moisture will be increasing, resulting in increasing low-level clouds and the possibility of patchy, dense fog across South Texas. Fog is most likely to occur between 5 and 9 a.m. Morning low temps will be more mild than the past few days, hovering in the mid-50s. By the mid-morning, clouds and fog will dissipate, and the sunshine will drive up temperatures. San Antonio will likely reach 70 degrees as early as 11 a.m., on our way to the low 80s by the late afternoon. It should be noted that there is some uncertainty with Monday’s temperature forecast. If the low clouds and fog stick around longer than expected, then temperatures will be slower to rise. In that case, highs could end up in the mid-to-upper 70s instead of the 80s. \The rest of the week Tuesday and Wednesday: A similar forecast is expected through the middle of the week. Patchy fog is possible both Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and low temperatures will be mild, only falling into the low to mid 60s. Afternoon temperatures will not fluctuate much, likely reaching the low 80s across the San Antonio area. Thursday and Friday: High pressure is expected to strengthen slightly across South Texas, resulting in temperatures rising a few more degrees. High temperatures will range between 83 and 85 degrees, which will threaten daily temperature records in San Antonio. Some parts of Texas may even flirt with the 90-degree mark, including the Rio Grande Valley northward toward Laredo. For the record, San Antonio’s average first 90-degree day of the year does not arrive until early April. \Next cold front Long-range weather models suggest that a cold front is expected to move through sometime next weekend or early next week. Sunday is the most likely day for the front to swing through South Texas. However, there's quite a bit of uncertainty about its timing. This next front is not expected to have arctic origins, so freezing temperatures are unlikely. That said, the front may send temperatures closer to seasonal norms, with highs potentially in the 60s by Sunday and Monday. Check expressnews.com/weather for continued updates throughout the week
