Texas super senior Timmy Allen will miss his second straight game with a right lower leg injury. The team plans to rest Allen until the NCAA tournament begins next week.

Texas forward Timmy Allen drives past Iowa State guard Jaren Holmes during the first half of an NCAA college basketball game, Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, in Ames, Iowa. KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Texas forward Timmy Allen will not play against No. 6 seed TCU in Friday night’s Big 12 men’s tournament semifinal game at the T-Mobile Center, a team spokesman confirmed a couple hours before the 8:30 p.m. tip.

Texas interim coach Rodney Terry said Allen got “nicked up a little bit” in the regular season finale against the Jayhawks. Big 12 sixth man of the year Sir’Jabari Rice started in place of Allen, his first start since his last season at New Mexico State. The graduate transfer scored a team-high 15 points with eight rebounds in the 61-47 win over the Cowboys.

Afterwards, Allen told the Express-News and Horns247 that he would have played had it been the NCAA tournament. But with Texas pretty much locked in as a No. 2 seed in the Big Dance, Texas didn’t want its versatile point forward to aggravate the injury this week in Kansas City.
