A significant cold front is expected to bring freezing temperatures to Texas next week, with the potential for wintry precipitation. Before the cold weather arrives, San Antonio will experience several days of mild temperatures.
The coldest air so far this winter is set to arrive in Texas next week. Many Texas cities will experience multiple nights in a row with below-freezing temperatures, especially in the northern half of the state. That being said, freezing temps are possible as far south as San Antonio and Houston. The cold weather is almost a certainty. However, what’s uncertain is whether wintry precipitation will accompany this burst of frigid air.
Some weather models indicate accumulating snow or ice in Texas, while many other weather models bring rain or dry weather altogether. In the next few days, forecast models will start to sharpen, giving us a better idea of what’s to come. Before the colder weather arrives, though, San Antonio will be treated to a few warm days. Today's forecast High atmospheric moisture levels will result in patchy, dense fog at the start of the day. Fog will emerge after 2 a.m., possibly lasting through 9 or 10 a.m. in some locations. Morning temperatures will hover in the lower to mid-50s, which is more than 10 degrees above average for early January. Cloudy skies will stick around through the morning, only allowing temps to rise slowly. San Antonio will reach 60 degrees by around 11 a.m., and afternoon temps will top out in the mid- to upper 60s. A few peeks of sunshine are possible, but skies are expected to stay mostly cloudy. Weekend forecast Saturday: Another mild and cloudy start is expected as predawn low temperatures only fall into the mid-50s once again. Southerly winds will increase by the afternoon, sending warmer air into South Texas. You can expect highs to reach the lower 70s under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Sunday: Temperatures are expected to rise into the lower to mid-70s during the late morning and early afternoon. However, a strong, arctic cold front will surge through South Texas by the late afternoon and evening. Temperatures will fall into the 50s after 6 or 7 p.m. as winds move in at 15 to 20 mp
