Texas adds more monthly jobs in February than it has in over a year; San Antonio-New Braunfels hits 2.6% in job growth rate
Texas payrolls grew by 49,800 jobs during February, the largest monthly gain since January 2023. In total, Texas had more than 14.1 million jobs in February, according to data from the Texas Workforce Commission and Bureau of Labor Statistics. In the past 12 months, the state’s total nonfarm employment grew by 291,400 jobs, a growth rate of 2.1% and outpacing the U.S. rate by 0.3 percentage points. In San Antonio-New Braunfels, the growth rate for February was even higher at 2.
The new look of energy jobs: San Antonio program trains workers to meet growing needs in renewables. In San Antonio-New Braunfels, the number of construction industry jobs was up 4.3% from a year ago and up 1% from the month prior, to 73,100. Government jobs in the region had the biggest spike, growing 2.1% over the month to reach 187,300 jobs. Only one of the 11 major industries tracked lost jobs.
