Texas A&M rolled past former conference rival SMU for the Aggies' third straight win...
Henry Coleman III, pictured earlier this season, led Texas A&M with 23 points against SMU on Wednesday night.COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M played across the railroad tracks in long-gone G. Rollie White Coliseum back when the Aggies mixed it up with SMU in the old Southwest Conference, but Wednesday night’s meeting between the old league foes in Reed Arena brought out a dash of the old SWC flair.
The Aggies rode roughshod 83-64 over the Mustangs in a series dating back more than a century, primarily in the SWC that closed its curtains in 1996. The teams have played four times since last colliding as conference opponents, with SMU winning the previous meeting 55-52 in 2013 at the Corpus Christi Challenge.
The Aggies next face Boise State at 6 p.m. Saturday in Dickies Arena in Fort Worth before returning to Reed Arena on Dec. 11 against Oregon State. A&M has won three straight for the first time this season, following 16-point victories over Loyola-Chicago and DePaul. The Aggies leaped to a 45-36 halftime lead thanks to 11 points from forward Henry Coleman III and doubling up the Mustangs in points in the paint over the first 20 minutes.
