The Volunteers are ranked 14 spots higher than the Aggies, but A&M is the only real threat to second-ranked Alabama for the SEC regular season title. All this after the Aggies started nonconference play 6-5 and the program appeared destined for another swing and a miss at the 68-team NCAA postseason.
Seven of their league victories have been by an average of 18 points per game, and last year when they narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament, they did not win a league regular-season game by more than 16 points in finishing 9-9. Dennis said any Vols woes don’t matter Tuesday to the home team that takes nothing for granted following nonconference losses to Murray State, Colorado, Boise State, Memphis and Wofford.
