Texas A&M takes life one second at a time on march to NCAA Tournament

Dexter Dennis, here shooting over Missouri's Tre Gomillion in Texas A&M's road victory Saturday, says their 6-5 nonconference start made the Aggies treat every subsequent game like a high-stakes encounter.COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M forward Henry Coleman III said the Aggies work hard not to look ahead. Past practice.

The Volunteers are ranked 14 spots higher than the Aggies, but A&M is the only real threat to second-ranked Alabama for the SEC regular-season title. All this after the Aggies started nonconference play 6-5 and the program appeared destined for another swing and a miss at the 68-team NCAA postseason.

Seven of their league victories have been by an average of 18 points, and last year when they narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament, they did not win a league regular-season game by more than 16 points in finishing 9-9. Dennis said any Vols woes don’t matter Tuesday to the home team that takes nothing for granted following nonconference losses to Murray State, Colorado, Boise State, Memphis and Wofford.
