A Tesla Cybertruck owner in Florida crashed after failing to merge out of an ending lane while using the carmaker's 'Full Self-Driving' (FSD) feature. Despite the crash, the owner praised Tesla for its passive safety, highlighting the ongoing debate surrounding the capabilities and limitations of Tesla's driver-assistance technology.

A Tesla Cybertruck owner experienced a frightening crash while utilizing the carmaker's controversial ' Full Self-Driving ' ( FSD ) feature. Jonathan Challinger, a Florida resident, collided with a curb and subsequently a light post after failing to merge out of an ending lane. His vehicle exhibited no attempt to decelerate or steer until it had already impacted the curb. 'Big fail on my part, obviously,' he posted on Twitter. 'Don't make the same mistake I did. Pay attention. It can happen.

'Intriguingly, Challinger seized the opportunity to commend Tesla for 'engineering the best passive safety in the world.' For years, regulators have been scrutinizing Tesla's driver-assistance software, determining last year that owners like Challinger frequently disengage. Reality, however, has yet to align with Tesla's assertions. Tesla maintains that its FSD software necessitates driver engagement and readiness to assume control at all times. In practice, drivers like Challinger often lapse into inattention. Over time, FSD and its broader Autopilot system have been implicated in numerous collisions. Challinger further stated, 'I do have the dashcam footage,' in his tweet. 'I want to share it as a public service announcement that it can happen, even on v13, but I'm hesitant because I don't want the attention and I don't want to give the bears/haters any material.'The latest incident sheds light on some conspicuous shortcomings of the technology — and a perplexing level of confidence exhibited by Tesla drivers. One Reddit user remarked, 'I don't understand how on current versions of FSD a person is able to look away from the road long enough to drive straight into a pole.' Another user commented, 'I can barely shoulder check a lane change without the eye tracking nagging at me. And it’s at night too so it’s not like they had sunglasses on.' The incident raises concerns about the safety and reliability of Tesla's FSD system, emphasizing the need for continued scrutiny and responsible usage
