A judge on Wednesday sentenced a teenager to a little more than eight years in prison for a drug offense related to a Semmes teenager’s fatal fentanyl overdose in 2022.

Defense attorney Jeff Deen asked for a sentence at the low end or middle range of the guidelines, but he said outside the courtroom that he believes the judge’s decision is fair. He reiterated his contention that both Taylor and Lewis shared responsibility for what happened that evening. Taylor was just 15 when she died, a fact that her anguished relatives pointed to repeatedly during the sentencing hearing.

Ashton Logan, Taylor’s older sister, said she keeps thinking about all of the milestones that the victim will miss.Outside the courtroom, she said getting the news that night was “heartbreaking, life-changing.” She said she lost her father and sister in the span of just a year.
