Steven Gilmour was just 17 when he attacked Daryll Wright at a flat in May 2021.
A teenage killer stabbed a young man in the heart during a row and felt "horrible" after doing so, a court has heard.
Gilmour was remanded in custody and will learn his fate in the New Year. The hearing was told a number of young men and women had gathered at the house in Kilwinning. Gilmour dropped the weapon and fled the scene. Daryll was also initially able to get up and went outside before collapsing in an alleyway.
He never recovered and passed away on May 24. The fatal wound had penetrated the front of Daryll's heart.
