A 17-year-old was flown to a Salt Lake area hospuital
Lone Peak Police officers said an officer who had just checked off duty was driving home just after midnight on Thursday, Aug. 8, when he witnessed a vehicle traveling well above the speed limit on Canal Boulevard Highland.
The officer reportedly turned on his emergency lights, caught up to the car, and flipped his vehicle around to attempt a traffic stop.Police said that the vehicle did not stop but proceeded through a red light on Alpine Highway and then failed to navigate a turn. The driver and sole occupant, a 17-year-old boy, veered off the road and collided with a tree in Windsor Meadows Park. His vehicle burst into flames upon impact."There was a pounding on the front door, and a Lone Peak police officer was there," Freeze said."You feel bad; you don't know what happened," Freeze said. "If he had gone between these two trees right here, he would have gone through my fence and he could have ended up in my family room or kitchen.
"Vehicles are great to get around in, but they're also dangerous. Late at night, you don't want to be speeding; you want to be home in your bed," Freeze said.
