Matthew Atkinson's matter was mentioned in Shepparton Magistrates' Court today, where his murder charge over the death of 46-year-old Bjorn Delphine was discussed before the courts for the first time.

A 19-year-old Shepparton man has faced court charged with murder after allegedly stomping on a man's face, rendering him unconscious, at a supermarket in northern Victoria.

Matthew Atkinson is accused of intentionally causing serious injury to 46-year-old Bjorn Delphine at a Mooroopna supermarket on May 22. Mr Delphine was transferred to Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries following incident, where he died on June 5. Mr Atkinson's matter was mentioned in Shepparton Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, which was the first time his murder charge was discussed before the courts.

In June, Mr Atkinson was refused bail after appearing before the same court, charged with recklessly causing serious injury, assault by kicking as well as other offices.
