Declan Cutler was fatally attacked by a group of teens last year. His father says more children will die if the community doesn’t tackle the scourge of youth knife violence.

A bereaved father has made an impassioned courtroom plea to stop knife violence after his 16-year-old son was fatally attacked by eight strangers while walking home from a house party.

“These eight cowards armed themselves with the largest weapons available to them and were out for blood. This is not the world we thought we’d be raising our kids in. During an emotional victim-impact statement read out to the court, Beattie said his son was a cheeky teenager who loved fishing, kicking the footy and being active, and was completing his VCE while working in the concrete industry.“I never thought I’d be told my son was brutally murdered. Arriving on scene I just wanted to look at him, touch him, hold him. The detective advised me not to see him because it was the most horrifying scene he’s ever seen,” Beattie sobbed.
