Veteran run aid organization puts boots on the ground in Anchorage and around the state.
Thomas Brown, a spokesperson for Team Rubicon , was eager to share a bit about the organization and their efforts in Alaska . “ Team Rubicon is a veteran-led volunteer organization active in disaster response,” he explained.
“We got started in 2010 after the Haiti earthquake.” The organization is asking for new donations of everyday items to help out with the ongoing efforts to bring relief to the many individuals facing uncertainty after the devastating“We are really needing mattresses, mattress pads,“ Brown said. “ are on the floor, you know, they’re on cots. Old backs, a cot isn’t very comfortable, so having a mattress or a mattress pad, both of those very necessary.” Team Rubicon’s efforts are not limited to Anchorage. Volunteers are currently deployed around the state and helping with efforts to rebuild. “Operating out of Bethel, we also have small strike teams that were deployed to affected villages to begin immediate, expedient home repair,” Brown stated. “So they’re going to be pulling up floorboards, ripping out soaked insulation, trying to get , when they come back in the springtime, one less thing for them to do.” Team Rubicon has praised Alaskan’s generosity and support, but they request that donations for their efforts to be new, and Brown had some very good reasons why. “We cannot accept donations at this time,” he said. “We ask for only new items, please. We just don’t have the capacity to intake, sort, possibly clean, and then distribute those items. That’s just not something we’re set up to handle right now.Brown said that Team Rubicon is in it for the long haul and have no plans to leave Alaska anytime in the near future“I mean, we’re here. We’re not going anywhere. We’re a local organization,” he said. “My gray shirts that are here in Alaska, Anchorage, Mat-Su, Juneau, Fairbanks, all over the state, they’re not going anywhere.”Feds extend disaster loans to cover subsistence living damages in Halong aftermath
