The United States Postal Service is directing mail for evacuees from Kwigillingok and Kipnuk, impacted by Typhoon Halong, to the Egan Center in Anchorage. Evacuees can pick up their mail daily. The USPS is working to catch up with mail delivery and expects to be fully caught up by the end of the week. Change of address requests are available.
ANCHORAGE , Alaska - The United States Postal Service is urging evacuees impacted by former Typhoon Halong to submit aFollowing Halong, residential mail from Kwigillingok and Kipnuk is now going directly to the Egan Center in downtown Anchorage , where evacuees from the storm are staying.
Evacuees have the ability to pick-up their mail daily, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, at the the site’s makeshift mailroom. “Mail’s important, especially to Alaskans,” James Boxrud, a spokesperson with the USPS, said. “We become a lifeline, especially to the villages. You know, in there is, you know, life-saving medication, regular medication. Our mail flies with food and other things these villages need to survive.” On Tuesday, Boxrud said around 300 parcels were received. He said that the postal service is currently playing catch-up with the mail. He expects the USPS to be completely caught up by the end of the week.
