Certainly, the Horned Frogs are thrilled to be in the CFP as the first team from the state...

“It’s cool because, No. 1, it means you can do it here,” TCU first-year coach Sonny Dykes said of the Horned Frogs’ unprecedented achievement among the state’s dozen FBS programs. “That’s the whole thing … when you look around college football, there are certain programs that have always done it — bigger programs with big fan bases with big student bodies with great traditions.No. 3 TCU takes on No. 2 Michigan at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz. The winner will face No.

Dykes, hired from TCU rival SMU a year ago, credits his predecessor with the Horned Frogs, Gary Patterson, with setting the table for TCU’s holiday feast in the desert. Of course, Dykes and his injection of a high-octane offense finally provided the main course. “This is the best of the best playing the best,” Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said. “… is a great team, no question about it. They’re really good at all positions.”

But TCU had languished a bit over his last few seasons, and both TCU administrators and Patterson agreed new blood was needed along Berry Street. As it turned out, Dykes was just what the doctor ordered for a program long on the brink of greatness — and perhaps unfairly left out of the CFP in 2014. The Horned Frogs still recruit nationally — Duggan is from Council Bluffs, Iowa, for instance — but a vast majority of the roster is from Texas.
