Duggan consistently referencing his Horned Frogs teammates has become par for the course near the Colonial Country Club. The Horned Frogs won their lone national title in 1938 under coach Dutch Meyer. Duggan’s message to his teammates in their most ballyhooed contest since?Duggan would not be in the national spotlight this weekend if he hadn’t stayed grounded during his roller-coaster tenure at TCU. In 2019 under then-Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson, who recruited Duggan to Fort Worth from Council Bluffs, he threw for a TCU true freshman record 2,077 yards and 15 touchdowns while starting the final 10 games.

Duggan said he realized TCU “might have a shot” at winning it all this season when the Horned Frogs overcame deficits in three straight Big 12 games against then-ranked opponents Kansas, Oklahoma State and Kansas State in the middle of the season.
