Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a convicted felon with nearly 100 arrests on his record following a high-speed chase through Olympia.
Deputies pursued the speeding truck through several towns and counties, eventually arresting two people in connection to a suspected organized retail theft scheme. Thurston County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a convicted felon with nearly 100 arrests on his record following a high-speed chase through Olympia ending in Lacey Sunday night.
He did not appear in court as scheduled on Tuesday because he was feeling ill, according to his attorney. He now faces possible charges tied to a pursuit that reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. According to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies initially pursued a couple wanted for organized retail theft out of neighboring Lewis County. During the chase, deputies were forced to terminate the pursuit twice due to safety concerns as the driver reached triple-digit speeds, drove on the wrong side of the road, ran red lights, and sped through downtown Olympia and Lacey.“I would say it’s probably a combination of luck because ultimately the individuals who are freeing always have the choice to kill someone, they can always crash into someone intentionally or unintentionally, but a little bit of luck and also some good decision making by the deputies,” said Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders. The chase came to an end near Mountain View Elementary School at 19th Avenue and College Street in Lacey, where the suspects abandoned their vehicle and ran into a nearby neighborhood to try to escape. Deputies were able to locate and arrest them shortly afterward. “I saw a couple of police cars, then I heard some squealing, then more and more cars were just flying down the road like something was going on,” Chase Hubbard, who saw the arrests in front of his home, said. “Then we heard some cops come out and say, 'Put your hands up, walk back slowly,' just watched the entertainment from the window and thought someone’s having a bad day, I’m glad they didn’t hit anybody on the way over here.” According to arrest records, deputies saw a small white bag in the male suspect’s mouth and ordered him to spit it out. Instead, he quickly began chewing and swallowed it, later telling deputies it contained meth. The sheriff said the suspect’s criminal history includes mostly theft-related offenses. Records show he has four felony convictions and 27 misdemeanor convictions. The suspect was scheduled to appear in court this week but has now missed two hearings due to feeling ill, according his attorney.“Home Improvement” star Zachery Ty Bryan will be serving another 19 months in prison in Oregon after admitting to three probation violations.Investigators in Iowa believe they may have found the person responsible for the 2011 slaying of realtor Ashley Okland.Police believe the dog had been outside for more than 24 hours, exposed to the elements. The 2023 shooting death of a pregnant woman on her way to work in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood is again drawing attention to Washington’s “born alive” rule aKing County prosecutors are seeking to have a teenage suspect charged as an adult in connection with the murders of two high school students.
