Some distinctive tattoos helped investigators identify a Texas man who was pulled from an Alabama river more than two decades ago.

On March 26, 2000, a body was pulled from the Styx River in Seminole, and the man’s identity remained a mystery since then. On Monday, investigators identified the man as Daniel Muniz Jr., multiple media outlets reported. Investigators believe Muniz was a migrant worker from Texas who was working in Alabama at the time of his death.

The case went cold until Baldwin County Sheriff’s investigators reopened the case in 2019. They released images of Muniz’s distinctive tattoos to media and missing persons websites.‘A piece of my heart’ — Hopes for a better life for Lina Sardar Khil dashed by her disappearance in San Antonio “The number of websites available for missing persons and stuff and also the fact that this person had very distinct tattoos, so the decision was made to put it back out there and hopefully, somebody will notice these tattoos, and that’s what happened,” Baldwin County Capt. Clint Cadenhead told Fox10 News in Alabama.
