Afghanistan's Taliban group have welcomed an announcement by President Trump that he would pull out all U.S. troops from the country by Christmas.

It was"a positive step towards the implementation of Doha agreement," a spokesman for the Islamist group, Mohammad Naeem, said in a statement.
