A grass fire has caused chaos near a runway at Sydney Airport, as a Qantas flight bound for Brisbane was forced to make an emergency landing due to suspected engine failure. The fire was sparked on Friday afternoon, Fire and Rescue NSW said in a statement. “FRNSW responding to reports of a bush fire in the vicinity of Sire Joseph Banks Park,” it said. “This is well east of the airport and near Foreshore Drive.
” A FlightAware map shows a Qantas flight bound for Brisbane had circled in the air a number of times before it turned around and returned to Sydney Airport about 1.10pm. “Earlier today, a Brisbane bound flight made an emergency-return to Sydney Airport, landing safely just after 1pm,” a Sydney Airport spokesperson confirmed.
