and while some of the issues have been fixed, those repairs remain ongoing, according to the latest updates from Metra on Thursday afternoon.Metra says it “anticipates some congestion-related delays this evening.” Amtrak was reporting several switch and signal issues have been repaired, but there are still repairs ongoing as of Thursday. Those repairs could leave multiple platforms out of service for Thursday’s rush hour, which could lead to delays on trains leaving Union Station. Delays have been occurring at Union Station on multiple afternoons this week, with the bulk of the issues occurring on the BNSF line, which services Chicago’s western suburbs. Delays of up to 30 minutes were reported on that line during the Wednesday morning rush hour as well, with Southwest Service and Heritage Corridor trains also impacted. Hundreds of passengers were left milling around at Union Station waiting for their trains on Wednesday, leading to Metra apologizing for the overcrowding.The agency has said it will continue to work with Amtrak to address the issues with signals and switches, but it’s unclear when those repairs will be completed.
