Santa Rosa police confirm with ABC7 Eyewitness News that officers shot and critically injured a suspect Thursday morning.
Thursday, March 12, 2026 11:14PMA man is in critical condition after being shot by a Santa Rosa police officer late Thursday morning following a confrontation in downtown Santa Rosa, authorities said. The officer-involved shooting happened near 10th and Washington streets and began with a call from a neighbor about an individual believed to be homeless, according to police.
The person was described as sleeping on the street and blocking a driveway."Two successive gun shots, I don't know what caliber it must've been strong," Opincar said."Yes, I saw the police come through, and more police came to the scene, apparently," he said. Audio from police radio traffic captured officers reporting the shooting and requesting medical help.Clothes and shoes were scattered in the street where the shooting occurred."The individual is described as someone who was sleeping on the street, blocking a driveway. When an officer got here, individual was not compliant," Mahurin said. Police said the man was aggressive, and a physical struggle followed. Mahurin said the officer tried to use a Taser during the confrontation. "At one point, the officer deployed their Taser to try to overcome what was occurring, but that didn't work.
