A suspect in the deadly shooting of a woman in San Marcos has been taken into custody in Harris County and charged with murder, authorities say. San Marcos police received a 911 call around 2:30 p.m. Friday. Police say a man stated that he had just 'killed his wife' and said he had 'shot her.' He then hung up. Police say the dispatcher tried to return the call multiple times but couldn't reach the man.
Officers responded to the 800 block of River Road and found the back door of the apartment open. A woman, identified by police as 43-year-old Victoria Valadez, was found shot to death in a back bedroom. Investigators identified the suspect as Juan Manuel Yanez, 47. Police say they were able to link him to the phone number that was used to call 911, and the preliminary investigation suggested Yanez had a relationship with the victim. Yanez was not at the scene, and police didn't find his vehicle in the area. Police say Harris County deputies were able to locate the suspect in an area he is known to frequent. He was taken into custody around 8 p.m. Police say he was charged with murder and is being held on a $100,000 bond. It's unclear when he will be transported back to San Marcos
