Demarcus Abercrombie, charged with capital murder in the deaths of two men at a funeral repast in Brighton, Alabama, appeared in court for a preliminary hearing. Prosecutors presented evidence, including video footage and threatening messages, linking Abercrombie to the crime. Defense attorneys argued for insufficient evidence. The judge ruled there was enough probable cause to send the case to a grand jury.

A 27-year-old Fairfield man accused of fatally shooting two individuals at a funeral repast in Brighton, Alabama, in December 2024, appeared before a judge on February 4, 2025, for a preliminary hearing. The suspect, identified as Demarcus Abercrombie, is charged with capital murder in the deaths of D'Angleo Le'Marcus Samuel, known as rapper Landlord Lo, and Roderick Hall, Abercrombie's uncle.

Prosecutors presented evidence, including video footage of the shooting, which reportedly showed Abercrombie wearing distinctive clothing, including pants with an image of Jack Skellington, the protagonist from the 1993 film 'The Nightmare Before Christmas.' Additionally, prosecutors revealed that they had recovered messages sent from Abercrombie to Samuel threatening to kill him.Defense attorneys, however, argued that there was insufficient evidence to link Abercrombie to the crime. They claimed that anyone could have sent the threatening messages and pointed out that no witnesses or biological evidence placed Abercrombie at the Brighton Community Center on the day of the shooting. After a lengthy hearing, Judge Thomas Thrash ruled that there was enough probable cause to send the case to a grand jury for indictment consideration. The judge also authorized prosecutors to collect a DNA sample from Abercrombie but withheld a decision on revoking his probation. The investigation revealed that Abercrombie, who had been released from prison just over a month before the double homicide, was on probation at the time. Witnesses reported seeing a Jeep Wrangler circling the community center during the funeral repast, and then three masked men exiting the vehicle and opening fire. The driver of the Jeep remained inside during the shooting. The footage captured the victims, Samuel and Hall, collapsing to the ground, pronounced dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Neither victim was carrying a weapon. The detective testified that Abercrombie was the shooter closest to the victims, wearing a black mask, a dark sweater, black and white tennis shoes, and the distinctive Jack Skellington pants. Investigators tracked the Jeep to Bryanna Turner, Abercrombie's girlfriend, who was later interviewed by authorities. They found Abercrombie's wallet, black and white tennis shoes, and a Target receipt in Turner's apartment. A black mask was discovered in a garbage bag in the same apartment. Target video footage showed Abercrombie wearing the same distinctive pants on the day of the shooting. Moreover, investigators found threatening Facebook messages from Abercrombie to Samuel on Abercrombie's phone, in which he expressed his intent to kill Samuel upon their next encounter.
