A Montgomery County man is under arrest after authorities say he fired shots at law enforcement officers during a central Alabama standoff.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Monday, an ALEA trooper tried to stop a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck on U.S. 231 near County Road 7707 in Pike County. The driver failed to stop and a chase ensued. After the crash, a standoff took place between the driver and law enforcement.
ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation, SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiation Unit responded, as did Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies. Maxie Doyal Evans, 47, of Ramer, was armed with a handgun and fired at officers, ALEA Lt. Jeremy Burkett said. No one was injured. After negotiations, Burkett said Evans was taken into custody without further incident. He is facing charges of attempting to elude as well as gun charges, Burkett said. Evans will be booked into the Pike County Jail once released from the hospital.
