– A suspect has been charged in the fatal shooting of a man at an apartment complex in southwest Houston Sunday, officers with the Houston Police Department said.HPD officers were sent to do a welfare check at an apartment located at 6301 West Bellfort Blvd. around 10:40 p.m. Monday.
According to investigators, a witness said there was a shooting in the apartment on Sunday. Police said the victim was inside an apartment unit with two other men doing drugs when one of the other men pulled a gun out and demanded the victim take his hands out of his pockets. The victim refused to comply and was shot, HPD said.
The witness did not call the police initially because he said he was scared and believed the shooter was still in the apartment, officers said. Investigators said the witness provided officers with a description of the suspect and his clothing description. An officer reportedly knocked on the door of the apartment and a man matching the suspect’s description answered.
Officers said they detained Vanejas and conducted a search of the apartment, where they located the victim’s body in a bedroom. The victim had suffered at least one gunshot wound, police said.Copyright 2022 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.
