San Bernardino County District Attorney Jason Anderson announced on Monday that 47-year-old Angelo Jose Saldivar faces a murder charge with two special circumstances, including the killing of a peace officer in the line of duty. "This morning, our office filed 10 charges against Angelo Saldivar as a result of conduct that he committed a week ago. Count one is for the murder of Deputy Andrew Nunez," Anderson said during a news conference outside the Rancho Cucamonga Police Station, where deputies gathered to honor their fallen colleague. Investigators said Nunez was responding to a domestic dispute last week when Saldivar allegedly opened fire. Prosecutors said the suspect had been involved in a violent argument with his ex-wife outside of a Rancho Cucamonga condo complex.A San Bernardino County sheriff's deputy who was shot and killed in the line of duty was honored at a candlelight vigil. "We have charged him with attempted kidnapping of her, of false imprisonment by force, and a misdemeanor domestic violence charge," Anderson said. Saldivar also faces four counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities said several of the victims were neighbors or bystanders who called 911 for help. "Most of those other victims were actually reporting parties that were calling in to 911, and in some of those instances, you can actually hear in the 911 call some of the shots that were fired," Anderson said. After the shooting, investigators said Saldivar fled on a motorcycle, leading deputies on a high-speed chase along the 210 Freeway before being stopped by an off-duty narcotics deputy in a crash. Saldivar remains hospitalized. San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus said funeral arrangements are being made for Nunez, a six-year veteran of the department. "We know the public wants to be involved in this, and we are going to try and make all those considerations, obviously taking what the family wants," Dicus said. Nunez is survived by his wife, their two-year-old daughter, and his wife is expecting the couple's second child.
