MESA, Ariz. — A man is dead after he was shot during a confrontation with Maricopa County Sheriff's Office deputies early Thursday morning in Mesa.
He later exited the home armed with a rifle and allegedly confronted members of the SWAT team, MCSO said. MCSO said the investigation is ongoing. The agency has not disclosed how many shots were fired nor how many deputies fired their weapon.“The Valley” is what locals call the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. It is considered the largest metropolitan area in the Southwest. Whether a city is in the “East Valley” or “West Valley” depends on where it is in relation to Phoenix.
The county contains around 63% of Arizona’s population and is 9,224 square miles. That makes the county larger than seven U.S. states .
