It's no real secret among DC readers that Superman's "secret" identity is Clark Kent, but he once considered another identity altogether.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Superman is one of the most well-respected DC characters due to his utter devotion to helping people, both in his secret identity and out. As Superman, he patrols the streets of Metropolis, saving anyone from crime or any natural disasters that happen, and, as Clark Kent, he reports on social injustices and corporate corruption. But Superman once considered another secret identity altogether: Johnny Clark.
The idea for Johnny Clark was first explored in Action Comics #11 by Grant Morrison, Rags Morales, Rick Bryant, Brad Walker, Brad Anderson, and Carlos M. Mangual. When a mobster that Superman helped expose tries to blow up the Daily Star, where Clark reports, Clark throws himself on top of the bomber, saving the editor of the Daily Star. Unfortunately, this explosion seems to kill Clark Kent.
In actuality, Superman uses this opportunity to retire the identity of Clark Kent, creating a new identity in Johnny Clark so that he could save lives as a firefighter.Superman's Alternate Identity Johnny Clark Is a Loner Firefighter Superman has had the secret identity of Clark Kent since his first appearance, but, over the years, Clark has played with a few other identities, including Johnny Clark.
One of the biggest reasons Superman rids himself of his "Clark" identity is the belief that he wasn't really offering anything to anyone as a reporter. Since this takes place early in his career, Superman hasn't really seen the effects of his reporting. Later, Superman is convinced to bring the Clark Kent identity back by Batman of all people, who compiles a list of everyone helped by Clark's stories.
Superman's Secret Power Is His Choice of Secret Identity Superman's secret identity is an iconic part of the character, but one of the most difficult things in life is for someone to decide what they actually want to do with their gifts. When someone has the powers of Superman, this choice is especially hard. Superman wants to spend his time saving people, and, at this moment, he doesn't see any real benefit in Clark's skills as a reporter.
