When people think of the first superhero, they often think of Superman — but what most fans don't know is that Clark wasn't even the first Superman.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT While there may have been a few others before him, Superman has been portrayed in the past as the first super-powered and widely-known superhero. But, in a confrontation with a new enemy, Superman admits that there was a "Superman" before him named Adam Blake.
Clark Kent admits that he wasn't the first Superman in Action Comics #12 by Grant Morrison, Rags Morales, Cafu, Brad Walker, Rick Bryant, Bob McLedd, Andrew Hennessy, Brad Anderson, Gabe Eltaeb, and Steve Wands. This issue details the battle between Superman and Adam Blake, also known as Comet. As the two battle through the streets of Metropolis, Clark has the startling realization that he knows who Adam Blake is, calling him the first Superman: "the one no one remembered." It turns out that Smallville had another person living in it who was struggling with superhuman powers just like Clark's.Clark Kent Admits Comet Adam Blake Was the First Superman Superman grew up in Smallville, Kansas, where he felt almost entirely alone due to his powers.
The DC Universe has a massive amount of history behind it. Earth has dozens — if not hundreds — of superheroes and tons of people who have fought evil and injustice before Superman arrived. Teams like the Justice Society all predate Superman, so it's not too shocking to discover that there's someone from Smallville who predates the Man of Steel. Adam Blake's life was remarkably similar to Clark's, being born to two farmers and learning he had powers at a young age.
Superman and Comet: Two Cosmic Heroes from Smallville Unlike Superman, whose powers are mostly physical, Adam Blake's are almost entirely mental. He's a powerful psychic, able to lift and move things with a simple thought. He can also control people using his mental powers. While he claims to be trying to help the people of Earth, he comes into conflict with Superman due to his methods, forcing the two to fight.
