Heavy downpours, lighting and uptick in winds begin this afternoon
– If you have any outdoors plans for Sunday afternoon, you will be better off bringing those plans indoors.Rain will begin around 1 p.m. with a gradual acceleration of storm development for the next six hours. Similar to Saturday, isolated storms will converge to larger stronger storms that will continue into the early evening.
Please anticipate heavy downpours that could lead to flash flooding. Driving will become more dangerous due to hydroplaning and lightning could become hazardous as well. When you hear lightning, go indoors. Rain accumulation could be less than half and inch but heavy downpours could still cause a dangerous commute.Monday temperatures will begin in the low to mid 70s with mostly cloudy skies and light winds from the south. Southeast Georgia will continue to have light to moderate rain from Sunday evening into Monday morning, while Northeast Florida will get a break from the rain late Sunday night.
Monday temperatures will peak into the low to mid 90s with the heat index in the triple digits. Warm air from the south will continue to move north and help fuel storms. Afternoon storms will begin just after lunchtime and continue for the afternoon and early evening. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms will occur. We remain in this cycle for the first half of the work week.
