“But because their plans aren’t ready, they’ve decided to delay the Bill as well, so they can try to blame everyone else for the chaos they have created, and the fact that they haven’t got a proper plan.” In a series of votes, the Lords backed amendments seeking to ensure the Bill complies with domestic and international law as well as including a requirement that Parliament cannot declare Rwanda to be safe until the treaty with its promised safeguards is fully implemented.
The size of the defeats inflicted by Peers ranged from around 30 to 55 in favour of the amendments, indicating a degree of support for the changes that could cause a further political headache for No10.
