The Suits franchise expands again with 'Suits LA', a spin-off that moves the action to Los Angeles and introduces a new cast of characters. Led by Stephen Amell as Ted Black, the show promises to bring fresh legal drama while still honoring the legacy of the original series.
The legal drama universe of Suits is about to expand once again with the upcoming spin-off, Suits LA. However, before this new venture, the original series already produced a spin-off, Pearson . Gina Torres, who portrayed the formidable Jessica Pearson , managing partner of Pearson Hardman in the original series, left the show after a few seasons.
But her character reemerged in 2019, taking on a challenging new role as a fixer for Chicago's newly elected Mayor, Bobby Novak (played by Morgan Spector). Created by Aaron Korsh and Daniel Arkin, this initial spin-off, unfortunately, failed to resonate with viewers and was cancelled after only one season. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Torres reflects on the short-lived show and the vision she had for it. According to Torres, Pearson aimed to focus on everyday people, shifting the spotlight away from the privileged 5% that dominated Suits. Torres played a pivotal role in developing the series, serving as executive producer and lead star. She recounts the original plan for the spin-off, stating, 'It is something I pitched; it is something I was heavily involved in creating,' Torres revealed. 'I’m very proud of it. I’m very proud of what we were able to do. I will say it is the show I wanted to make. I wish we had had more time. I wish we’d had more time to tell more stories, to dive a little bit deeper into that world, because I had often said that whereas Suits was about the top 5 percent, I wanted Pearson to be about everybody else. And I believe that we were able to accomplish that in a really special way.'Despite its untimely demise, Pearson managed to bring in some familiar faces from the Suits universe, including Gabriel Macht's iconic Harvey Specter. Alongside Torres, the spin-off featured appearances from Bethany Joy Lenz, Simon Kassianides, Eli Goree, Isabel Arraiza, and Chanel Riley. Doug Liman, David Bartis, and Gene Klein also served as executive producers on the show. Meanwhile, 'Suits LA' is set to introduce a new cast of characters and challenges. Moving the action from New York City to Los Angeles, the spin-off will even feature Harvey Specter in a three-episode arc. Stephen Amell takes the lead as Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who is now fighting to save his firm in Los Angeles. Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, and Bryan Greenberg join the cast as Stuart Lane, Erica Rollins, and Rick Dodsen respectively, ready to navigate the complexities of the legal world.
