An upstate New York mom couldn’t believe her eyes when she gave birth to a record-breaking baby boy last month – a supersized bundle of joy nearly twice the size of an average newborn. Stunned parents Terrica and Shawn anticipated they would have a hefty newborn but were left in disbelief when their son Shawn Jr.
arrived on Jan. 31 at Cayuga Medical Center, weighing a whopping 13 pounds, the largest tot ever born at the Ithaca hospital, the facility announced.The hospital shared a heartwarming photo on Facebook showing the giant newborn alongside 4-pound Margot, born the same day to parents Chloe and Victor. “He’s already wearing 3 to 6 month diapers and clothes. The hospital celebrated both arrivals, highlighting that every baby and birth is unique and precious. “These two births are a wonderful reminder that every baby and every birth story is unique,” said Robyn Torgalski, System Director of Maternal Child Health at Centralus Health. “Whether a newborn weighs four pounds or thirteen, our teams are prepared to provide the highest level of care to both baby and family.
