A new study from the University of Colorado reveals that homeless encampments do not contribute to increases in crime. The research analyzed data from 2019 to 2023, focusing on crime rates near encampment sweep sites. Contrary to common beliefs, the study found minimal decreases in crimes like auto theft and public disorder, with some cases even showing an increase in violent crime after encampments were removed.
