Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven in season 5 of Stranger Things
Although Stranger Things may have left the fate of Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven ambiguous, the upcoming spinoff Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 will soon see her character return only a few months after the series finale.
The ending of Stranger Things was bittersweet for every character, but the show’s heroine, Eleven, earned its saddest fate. Despite helping the rest of the Hawkins gang defeat Vecna and destroy the Upside Down, Eleven ends up sacrificing herself to avoid the attentions of Linda Hamilton’s villainous Dr. Kay and the military. In doing so, Eleven ends the experiments at Hawkins Lab once and for all, but leaves Finn Wolfhard’s Mike heartbroken in her absence. Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 Features Eleven As A Main Character Mike proposed a possible alternative fate for Eleven during the finale’s last Dungeons and Dragons game, suggesting that Millie Bobby Brown’s heroine may have merely faked her disappearance to live a peaceful life. This option was arguably just as heartbreaking, so it is exciting that Eleven will soon return to screens in April 2026. Sadly, Netflix’s Stranger Things follow-up is unlikely to offer viewers any more clarity on the fate of the show’s hero. The first Stranger Things spinoff show, Tales from ’85, is an animated interquel that takes place between seasons 2 and 3, filling viewers in on the missing months and exploring what Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Eleven, Max, Steve, and a few new characters got up to. Although most spinoffs feature new main characters and new settings, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is taking a different approach. The show will follow the same main characters as the original series and takes place during the same timeline, filling in a blank of this existing story instead of telling a new tale. Why Millie Bobby Brown Is Not Returning As Eleven In Tales From ’85 Despite this, viewers should not expect to see the show’s original stars back for the new series. Netflix’s Stranger Things replacement recast all its main characters, with franchise newcomer Brooklyn Davey Norstedt now playing Eleven instead of Millie Bobby Brown. Brown is currently filming two upcoming movies, Just Picture It and Enola Holmes 3. However, there is another reason that Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 didn’t bring back Brown that has nothing to do with the actor’s availability. As noted by many critics upon Stranger Things season 5’s release, the show’s original actors were noticeably older than their characters by its final outing, and this spinoff stars even younger versions of their characters. However, recasting the main Stranger Things characters is still a big risk for the spinoff. If it works, the franchise could last forever, but if it doesn’t, Tales from ’85 runs the risk of feeling like an imitation. Since the show follows the same characters in the same setting during the same time period and arrives only a few weeks after the series finale, the spinoff will inevitably remind viewers of the original show.
