A flood watch has been issued Monday for New Jersey’s five northeastern counties due to possible heavy rain. The watch began at 11 a.m. and expires at midnight in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties, theBetween 1 and 3 inches of rain could fall in a short period of time, causing flooding near rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations, the weather service said.
Forecasters from the Weather Prediction Center, affiliated with the National Weather Service, said some of the rain showers and thunderstorms that develop today will be moving slowly and could dump as much as 1 to 3 inches of rain in one hour, adding to the risk of flash flooding in parts of the Mid-Atlantic region, including New Jersey.
