The Warriors snap a five-game losing skid as Porzingis, Melton return.

Golden State Warriors guard De’anthony Melton, right, gathers a rebound during the first half of an NBA basketball game against the Washington Wizards, Monday, March 16, 2026, in Washington. WASHINGTON D.

C. – With four NBA titles and one Coach of the Year honor, Steve Kerr is already one of the most decorated coaches in NBA history. The longtime Warriors coach reached 600 career victories, becoming just the 28th man to do so in NBA history. Only Phil Jackson, Pat Riley and Gregg Popovich required fewer games to get to that number of victories. The Warriors entered Tuesday’s game mired in a five-game losing skid, but a game against a Wizards team stuck in an 11-game losing streak was just what Golden State needed after losing a close one in Madison Square Garden the night before. Kristaps Porzingis put in 30 points in just 25 minutes, while De’Anthony Melton scored 27 in 27 minutes. Gui Santos put up 18 points and four rebounds, and Gary Payton II continued his strong run of play on the offensive side of the ball by scoring 15 and grabbing six rebounds. Porzingis, playing against his old team, dropped 15 first half points as the Warriors led 64-57 at intermission against a team not exactly known for stringing together stops. The Wizards give up an average of 123.7 points per game – second-worst in the league – and recently allowed Bam Adebayo to score 83 points.Warriors instant analysis: Nine-man Golden State runs out of steam late at KnicksPerhaps the Warriors were also buoyed by the presence of Jimmy Butler – travelling to his first game since tearing his ACL in January – and Steph Curry, who remained out with runner’s knee but sat on the bench. Draymond Green returned to the starting lineup after missing the past two games with lower back soreness, while Porzingis and Melton were also cleared to play the second leg of the back-to-back. Melton looked spry after a day off, the highlight being a third quarter dunk that saw him reach all the way back before slamming two points in over Julian Reese. Meanwhile, the Wizards bad day became worse when Trae Young bruised his quad in that same quarter and was ruled out after leaving with 7:49 remaining in the third quarter. Anthony Davis and Alex Sarr were already ruled out for Washington.
