Don't park non-Stellantis-made vehicles in the preferred lots.

If you work at the Stellantis North American headquarters, it seems you better drive a Stellantis-made vehicle if you want a decent parking spot. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, employees that park a non-Stellantis vehicle in the preferential parking spaces reserved for company-branded vehicles will be issued a ticket.

The good news for Stellantis employees is that they have 14 different brands to choose from. Still, employees are not happy—especially given, that according to a recent report by Reuters, all U.S. salaried workers must return to full-time office work starting March 30. As these workers RTO, they reportedly find their parking choices are limited. A spokesperson for Stellantis told the WSJ that the preferential parking spaces are for company-branded vehicles, and that “employees must adhere to posted signage and communications.” The Journal also noted that the tickets currently include no financial penalty, but repeated violations could lead to cars being immobilized. On a subreddit called r/Stellantis, many apparent employees are expressing their frustration with the ticketing policy. One commenter explained that when they returned to the office from a doctor’s appointment, the competitive brand parking lot was completely full; the company-branded vehicle lot was well under capacity, but they still could not park there for fear of being ticketed. Another Reddit user was more direct: “How about making cars that employees want to buy and can actually afford? That'd be a great start. I bought two cars while working for Stellantis and neither was a company brand.”Stellantis is not alone with a policy like this. Similar practices have existed at other Detroit automakers, including Ford and GM, though enforcement varies widely; Ford told the WSJ that it does not designate parking spaces for specific makes of vehicles, competitors or otherwise. In the end, Stellantis’s parking policy highlights the fact that your workplace identity is tied to what’s in your driveway if you work at an automaker. Even your daily commute can become a brand statement.
