With all of 2026's most anticipated games expected to launch sporadically throughout the year, it is times like this when you are stuck on what to play. Yes, you could replay a favorite, but you could also make use of Steam, which has made this terrifying horror game completely free to play for a limited time.
For lovers of the ghost-hunting Phasmophobia or, more recently, the terrors found throughout Silent Hill f, Lost in Anomaly is a 2024 horror release that is guaranteed to keep you up at night. Steam Has Another Limited-Time Free Game Developed by Aximus Games, Lost in Anomaly combines the gameplay of titles such as Phasmophobia to bring us a psychological horror title which takes place on the 9th floor of an abandoned building. Like fellow free Steam games Hellmart, players will be tasked with hunting down anomalies, but one wrong move, and you will be trapped on that desolate floor forever. First released back in December 2024, Lost in Anomaly not only offers a free demo to try-before-you-buy, but you will not even need to buy as the game is currently free to add to your library from now until 16 February. So if you are a horror game fan and want to spend the upcoming Valentine's Day being scared to death, this may be the perfect opportunity. Lost In Anomaly Looks Worth A Shot After waking up on the 9th floor of this strange building, you soon discover that the only way to make it out is to slowly descend the levels and get to the exit. However, it will be up to you to detect and mark anomalies along the way and, if you have been successful, the elevator will take you to the next floor. If you miss one, you will be sent straight back to Floor 9. With gameplay lasting anything from 25–75 minutes based on how long it takes you to detect all the anomalies, Lost in Anomaly is a game which will really test your patience, but in a game which will test your observation skills, only the most eagle-eyed will make it through. In the game's current early access version, players can expect plenty of anomalies to discover on each floor as well as the occasional jump scare, so if you have a nervous disposition like myself, be prepared to do a whole lot of running and screaming. Nevertheless, Lost in Anomaly is a game worth trying out, not just because it is free to play, but because the bravest amongst us will want to check out this carefully crafted horror game with nods to some of the classics.
