State should give NJ Transit more money to avoid fare hikes, residents say in poll

A Rutgers-Eagleton poll said the majority of those surveyed oppose raising fares or cutting NJ Transit service.

The statewide phone poll of 1,002 adults found that 54% strongly oppose and 24% somewhat oppose cutting NJ Transit bus, rail and light rail service, while a total of 19% support or strongly support service cuts to avert a forecasted fiscal cliff.that could snowball into a $957 million shortfall by fiscal year 2027, officials announced plans in April to look at cutting costs and raising revenues, including possible fare increases.
