A government scheme that allows people to pay to fill in gaps in their national insurance record and boost their state pension will end in less than three months. All are likely to benefit from doing this – here’s what you need to know ⤵️
People are encouraged to plug the gaps sooner rather than later as it can take some time to work your way through the necessary steps.
The current cost of topping up your class 3 NI contributions is £15.85 per week or £824.20 per year. This one-off lump sum payment can add up to 1/35 of the full rate to your eventual state pension. In an extreme case, someone who missed the deadline would lose the chance to top up a further ten missing years of NI contributions .
