CAPE TOWN - The State of Palestine has applied to intervene in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel in the International Court of Justice .
In its application, Palestine says it’s difficult to separate the current situation in Gaza from the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory. Since then, the court has issued provisional measures on three occasions to preserve Palestinian life and to prevent crimes of genocide.In an application to the court submitted by the State of Palestine, it says it wants to intervene in the case given the legal implications it will have.The ICJ allows any state to approach it even if it’s not party to its statute - if it makes a declaration recognising the jurisdiction of the court and agrees to comply with its rulings.
