There's a new push to improve care for nursing home patients across Upstate New York.
State leaders joined nursing home leaders at the Jewish Home in Brighton Monday, Sept. 29, 2025 to push for the passing of the CINERGY bill. in Brighton Monday to highlight the benefits of the CINERGY bill.
The legislation would establish a program to allow all nonprofit nursing homes to collaborate and give them access to certain reimbursement rates. It aims to improve quality of care at facilities across the state while helping them discharge patients more efficiently and reduce unnecessary hospitalizations. "It will improve the continuum of care for nonprofit nursing homes and long-term care residents," Brouk explained. "It will allow nursing homes the ability to collaborate and encourage them to hit quality mentions with an opportunity in the future for increased reimbursement rates."The bill has passed the state Assembly and Senate and is awaiting approval from Gov. Kathy Hochul to be signed into law.
