Fire officials said the cause of the explosion is unknown at this point. Officials from the State Fire Marshal, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.

OAKWOOD, Ohio – State and federal authorities have begun their investigation into an explosion that killed a man and injured more than dozen people at I. Schumann & Co. on Monday, officials said.

“The interior of the building is pretty catastrophic,” DiRocco said at a press conference at the Oakwood Fire Station on Tuesday. “We were working this morning with a structural engineer to see where it was safe for us to conduct our investigation,” “He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with his family at this time,” the statement said. “We would like to thank the many first responders whose quick action following our accident yesterday ensured our employees who needed medical care got it quickly.”

OSHA, the federal safety agency, said the worker was not wearing fire-retardant overalls or an aluminized overcoat. The company was fined $12,000.
